Health authorities around the world are trying to trace dozens of people who disembarked from a cruise ship before the hantavirus outbreak was identified, as well as anyone who has since had close contact with them.
The World Health Organization (WHO) has announced that following the outbreak aboard the Dutch vessel MV Hondius, five cases have so far been confirmed, including three deaths.
The UN health agency also stated that this outbreak is not similar to the beginning of the COVID-19 pandemic six years ago, because this strain of hantavirus is transmitted only through very close contact.

According to CBS News, health agencies in five states are monitoring individuals who were on the ship, including two in Georgia and Texas, one in Arizona and Virginia, and an unspecified number in California.
